Hi, I'm Gemma.

Hi, I'm Gemma.

About

Providing 20 years experience of supporting and nurturing the lives and well-being of young people.

Offering a special secluded space that gives safety, security and support.

I completed my psychotherapy training at The Institute for Arts and Therapy in Education, London.  I follow the BACP code of ethics and practice, and have Professional Indemnity Insurance.

I am informed by my training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and have a range of skills to offer parents when helping them feel connected with the process. This is particularly useful at the review points when supporting the child’s significant others to understand thoughts and feelings through the eyes of the child.

I worked as a Primary School Teacher for twelve years before my counselling training. In this role I gained extensive knowledge about child development. I recognise the impact that a young person’s emotional struggles can have, particularly when applying themselves fully at school and in building positive relationships with their peers and the adults outside the home.

MBACP, Dip. Integrative Child & Adolescent Counsellor and Therapist.

I pride myself in providing a safe and contained space, whereby children are supported to process life experiences, as well as be curious about the way things are now in relation to these, particularly in relation to trauma and loss.

I appreciate that talking about feelings can be difficult and prioritise building a secure, trusting relationship before exploring and understanding a child’s story.

I believe that life experiences should be accepted with empathy and that it is in connecting with others, and through relationships, that we heal and grow.

I value the benefits of using creative media in therapy when putting words to feelings and emotions. Using the arts can connect our inner and outer world; aiding our understanding of our sense of self. It enables deep connections with our feelings.

I continue to be inspired by every young person I meet and they continually affirm my commitment to supporting the emotional health of the children in our society.
